Purpose of Position
As a Domiciliary Support Worker (DSW), you will provide high-quality care and support to people in their own homes. Your role is to help people maintain their independence, dignity, choice, and wellbeing while ensuring their care needs are met safely and effectively.
You will deliver compassionate personal care and practical support that promotes a positive quality of life. The support provided should reflect the standard of care normally offered by a caring family member and will not include tasks that require nursing qualifications unless you have received appropriate specialist training.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care and Daily Living Support
- Assist people we support with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, undressing, and toileting.
- Support people with mobility needs and physical disabilities, including the use of mobility aids and specialist equipment.
- Assist with continence care while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Help people to remain as independent as possible in their daily lives.
- Support people at the end of life with sensitivity, compassion, and respect.
Wellbeing and Independence
- Promote the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of people we support.
- Encourage participation in hobbies, interests, social activities, and community involvement.
- Provide companionship through conversation, reading, writing, and recreational activities.
- Enable individuals to make informed choices and maintain control over their lives wherever possible.
- Support people to identify and manage risks while promoting independence.
Household Duties
- Accurately complete care records and reports.
- Contribute to support planning and reviews.
- Record people’s needs, wishes, preferences, and agreed outcomes.
- Report any significant changes in a person’s health, wellbeing, or circumstances to the Registered Manager.
- Attend care reviews and contribute to ongoing care planning.
Professional Development
- Attend all mandatory training, induction programmes, and qualifications as required.
- Participate in supervision sessions, team meetings, learning briefings, and performance reviews.
- Take responsibility, with your line manager, for identifying ongoing learning and development needs.
- Maintain knowledge of professional standards, codes of practice, and legislation relevant to your role.
