Essential:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the main principles of support
  • Understand the rights of the people who we support
  • Effective listening skills
  • Must be committed to Equal Opportunities
  • Able to maximise the independence of those who we support
  • Understand the need to risk assess
  • Ability to motivate

Desirable:

  • Good Knowledge of disability issues
  • Knowledge of services for people with a learning disability
  • Understanding of care standards

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • Good general education
  • Prepared to attend training and complete required qualifications

Desirable:

  • L2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Care Certificate
  • First Aid
  • Moving and positioning
  • Medication awareness

Experience

Desirable:

  • Experience of supporting people with a learning disability
  • Supporting people with their own personal care needs

Disposition

Essential:

  • Able to manage a varying workload in a structured and organised approach
  • Effectively manage difficult and potentially challenging situations
  • Socially confident
  • Good inter-personal skills

Special Requirements

Essential:

  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Being able to work alone and part of a team
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours and varying shift patterns including sleep- ins or waking nights where necessary
  • Good attendance and time keeping record

Desirable:

  • Full UK accepted driving licence and use of car
